“Independent research offers a counterbalance to our studies”

Dominik Bögli and Maylin Blunier, students of Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences and Biology, are eager to satisfy their thirst for knowledge both in the lecture halls and beyond. In the newly established Life Science Lab of the ETH Student Project House, they are cultivating special fungi that not only taste good but also contain neuroprotective natural compounds. The first products of their project can now be ordered on their website.
Superlative milestone for PSI/ETH spin-off Araris Biotech

PSI/ETH spin-off Araris Biotech AG, led by D-CHAB and ETH alumni, is being acquired by the multinational pharmaceutical company Taiho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The total value of the deal comes to USD 1.14 billion.The scientific foundations for the company have been led in the group of professor and co-founder Roger Schibli (D-CHAB) at PSI.
QS Ranking: Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at ETH among the top 10

In a total of 16 disciplines, among them chemistry and chemical engineering, ETH Zurich ranks among the 10 best universities in the world. These are the latest results of the QS World University Rankings according to subject.
This nanotube has a nose for oxygen

ETH researchers led by Máté Bezdek have developed a low-cost sensor made of carbon nanotubes that can selectively, efficiently and reliably measure minute quantities of oxygen in gas mixtures under light. The detector could be widely used in industry, medicine and environmental monitoring.
Departures and Appointments at D-CHAB

Prof. Andrea Burden, Associate Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology will leave ETH Zurich at the end of May 2025 to take up a position at another university. Prof. Sereina Riniker is appointed as Full Professor of Computational Chemistry at D-CHAB. Sereina Riniker’s research is in the area of computational and theoretical chemistry, with a focus on developing new methods and software for molecular dynamics computer simulations and cheminformatics.
